WHAT DID I DO RIGHT IN A PAST LIFE to receive such a lovely Yuletide story?

Something, apparently!

Go and read Angels Made From Neon and Fucking Garbage, because it is wonderful! Thank you so much, Yuletide writer; you made my Christmas, gave me more than I asked for or dared to expect, and had me from the summary: Jensen and Cougar are naked, and Cougar is secretly an elf.

jensen cougar

You don't NEED to know The Losers to enjoy it, but you'll enjoy it more if you do!

Thanks for the support on the "want to leave town and wander around in an Airstream" thoughts I was having in my last post. We should all get a tour bus and...hello, road trip!

[livejournal.com profile] tw_femficfest ! I am so excited and happy [livejournal.com profile] nancybrown  thought of this!)   I've got my prompts and am jazzed about them. :D

[personal profile] amalnahurriyeh has written some great meta for the LadiesBigBang.

So the question is, then, what is woman-centric fic, if it is not feminist, or any fic with a woman in it, and if it excludes fic that is outright sexist? It would seem to be a piece of fic that puts a female character at its center, and lets her dominate the not just the content, but the shape of the story. She's not just the person on the page the most, she's the person in control of the narrative. I mean that in a Doylist sense--she's not the person who makes everything in the story happen from within the story's framework, but, for the writer, she's the reason that the story exists, and it's shaped around her.

Check out: On Being a Writer of Woman-Centric Fic

And on that note, [livejournal.com profile] neifile7  and I are posting some Gwen-POV fic later today. \O/  It won't pass the Bechdel test, but hopefully it'll pass the hot test, since it's from a kinkmeme prompt. Ohoho.

Oh man, I saw this yesterday and LOL'ed.  (Spoilers for the Doctor Who episode The Lodger.)

What would it be like to have The Doctor as a flatmate? IT WOULD BE ODD OK.

The Odd Lodger by [livejournal.com profile] greenpear .  Please comment here and give her laurels. :)

Okay, I loved 5x10, the most recent episode.  I cried my eyeballs out towards the end.  And then I watched it again today and did the same thing.

And [livejournal.com profile] such_heights  has written a missing scene which is just perfect.

cutting this; the pairing might be spoilery... )

Saturday!

HEY YA! (I just said that like Outkast sings it.)

I have stuff to do today, but have a couple of quickies. Hur hur.

If you went to Hurricane Who last year (and I know a lot of you did, and had an ACE ADVENTURE), be aware that there might be some odd stuff going on around it this time. It sounds like one of the organisers is not returning emails. [livejournal.com profile] mrtonylee will not be a guest and has some info about the lack of info.  Please read this if you were planning to attend this con.

[livejournal.com profile] misswinterhill  has convention reports from Supanova! She attended the GDL and Marsters panels.  Master post!

BTW, if you haven't been following the Virtual Season, her ep is up, and it's really good. I'm following the VS but am a bit behind.

Thanks for reading 99:00, you guys (and sorry for comm-spamming on Friday). It's the longest thing I've ever written; I'm not capable of the super-lengthy Big Bang-stuff, really, so I'm glad overjoyed to get some feedback on this. :)

Thank you!

Thanks to whomever nominated my het and humour and rare pair stuff (and the Doctor/Jack story co-written with Sam and Shane) for CoT awards.  I feel very surprised and honoured and I squeed (a lot!)  Ditto for the nom for the Forbidden Awards, which unfortunately went into my spam filter -- which I never check -- and I responded too late to accept. I'm sorry, but really appreciate the nom.

Rec!: Madrigal dei Traditori by [livejournal.com profile] nancybrown  is part of her Rabbit Hole series and it sucked me right in like a Hoover.

This weekend: Gallifrey!  More squee!  Can't wait. Yes, as expected, I failed to make that River Song costume, since work and other things have been kicking my ass. So I'mma admire everyone else instead. Oh man, I bought a red velvet evening bag, which is fuckin' gorgeous. I can't wait to use that bad boy.

I think I know which of you are going, but you wanna check in in comments?  There will be much IRL meeting. Yays!

Linkies to recs! (Things I've been lucky enough to beta-read this week! Some for charity!) :D

[livejournal.com profile] amand_r has written a missing scene from "gold dust" for [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords. It's lovely! And long and satisfying, like this giant breadstick-sized pretzel I'm stuffing in my gob right now.

[livejournal.com profile] cyus has written (messy) Jack and Ianto on the morning after Pizza Mouth takes place. Toast Crumbs is also for [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords

[livejournal.com profile] dashakay links to more Help_Haiti fanworks auction items here!. :) Almost up to $2k!

And [livejournal.com profile] golden_d has a lovely piece featuring a discussion between Tosh and Suzie in The Dangling Conversation. WOW. Two female characters talking about poetry and not a dude.

51stcenturyfox: (Default)
I'm not doing one of those end-of-the-year rec posts. I'm sure to leave someone out!

So I'll do a thank you post instead. (AND I'm re-writing the whole thing because LJ hates "LJ user" code. *THWAP*)

BETAZ: To everyone who allowed me to stick my fingers in your frosting and beta-read more than 60 stories in 2009, THANK YOU. I'm looking at you, nancybrown, andreth47, amand_r, cruentum, copperbadge, neifile7, cookiesofkarma, stuffphile, verasteine, iamshadow, golden_d and the Yuletide writers I can't mention yet.  I don't rec your stuff afterward because it's a rule, I do it because it's great.

Cheers to andreth47 for coming up with the whole naughty Porn Battle concept, and crue for jumping in to co-host, and everyone else for taking part.

Thank you to amand_r for bringing sexy back with [livejournal.com profile] touchyerwood .

My thanks to snaxcident and the rest of the Askverse crew for making me laugh so much, and xtricks and the Torchwood Three RP company for making me think.

AND I want to publicly snuggle my Torchwood Secret Santa for being INCREDIBLY AWESOME. <3 <3 <3

The story written for me, Wonderful Life, has everything I love in fic: great dialogue, a little drunkiness, and HOT THREESOME ACTION.

lionessvalenti, you're brilliant for coming up with the [livejournal.com profile] twsecretsanta  exchange. There isn't a bad story in the bunch.

Like John Cleese, I'm ringing in 2010 with "a song in my heart, a skip in my walk and a hair of the dog", and I'm adding a faintly horrifying song cover by William Shatner.  *TOASTS YOU*

So ironic icon is ironic!

This is good (and sexy) I think you will like it. :D (I have a thing for fic set when Jack left and everyone misses him. You know. They Miss Him A Lot.)

Title: Isosceles by [livejournal.com profile] cyus ([livejournal.com profile] cruentum )
Pairing: Gwen/Ianto
Rating: R
Length: 1100 words
Summary: It's always all about Jack.

Speaking of, you've read xtricks' Gwen/Ianto crossdressing fic, right? Because OMG.

AND a video to kick off the almost-weekend from Lozzeh13 on da 'tube. It makes me feel cheery! (Running! Companion huggles! Prettyboy Doctor!)

Liked this planet so much I put a ring on it. Har. Um.

I just read a Rose/Gwen story well, I really liked it. I think those two would get on. Check out All That Hopping (A Multi-Dimensional Love Story) by [livejournal.com profile] magicallaw .

WTF, why didn't I know there's a [livejournal.com profile] dw_femslash comm? *joins*

From [livejournal.com profile] cruentum : John Barrowman on the Vernon Kay show. It looks to me like he's stealing Gareth's shirts.

I have RP to catch up on, and owe betaz.

Then I'm going to the mall because I need some black flats and I'm craving Cheese On A Stick. (Shut up.)

Nick finally posted his final [livejournal.com profile] writerinadrawer fic and it's so goooooood.  Read it, you should.  (That was done in my Yoda voice. No, really.)

Title: Something Beautiful
Characters: Gwen Cooper, Jack Harkness
Rating: PG
Length: 4,500 words
Summary: After Torchwood, after Jack, Gwen lives her life, even as Jack comes back.

Big encouragement to all of you who signed up for NaNoWriMo. I'm not sure how you do it.  I don't have a novel in me, pals. My creative mind is like a junk drawer. Open it up and you'll find pens and rubber bands and batteries and an iPod cord and some purple envelopes. These do not make one big cohesive thing when you put them together.

Did sign up for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide , though.

So many people on my f-list are bummed, hiding from H1N1, stuck with flat beer, being bothered on bus benches or have puppies with fevers.  I want to make great big cheer bubbles with one of those giant wands, blow them all over with a fan and clap with glee as they pop on each of you with a big soapy *gwink!*

Since that's just bizarre, here's something even weirder: If I were going to start a striptease career, I'd do it to this Lou Reed Song. In fact, I'd only strip to Lou Reed songs.

The [livejournal.com profile] omnijaxual fic fest has begun! (Jack/everything besides humans). So far I've read Jack/Risen Mitten and Jack/Ianto's suit and they were awesome!

This fest rocks.  I'm writing Jack/Pris (from Blade Runner).  Eventually!

ETA: OH! YAYS! [livejournal.com profile] iamshadow 's Jack/TARDIS story, You Carry It With You (a burden, a blessing) is up. I'd been nagging her to post it because I didn't realise it was for the fest. :D It's fab!

So, I'm using Google calendar, and it's SPOOKY. It's like it knows me. Except yours says this too:

[personal profile] amand_r is in England. I'm so envious!

I'm working on something for the X-Files Porn Battle here.  When I say working, I mean "looking at the prompts and drinking some wine".  Posting starts tomorrow.  I realize about... two people on my f-list care about this. But they should write some porn.

Sorry to hear John Barrowman won't be at the Hub convention next month; I know a lot of you are going. :(

You've uh... heard his voiceover reel, right? He does Standard American, Scottish and John Travolta.

If you belong to the Doctor/Jack/Rose comm, [livejournal.com profile] better_with_3 , be advised that there's a new one. The layout was broken and the mods are MIA, so [personal profile] dark_aegis , [livejournal.com profile] honorh and [livejournal.com profile] wendymr have launched [profile] betterwiththree

Speaking of, I thought this was sweet:

Title: The Perils of Hero Coats
Author: wmr / [info]wendymr
Characters: Tenth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness
Rated: G
Disclaimer: You know, I really think they meant to write something like this into the series!
Summary:  "They’re very nice coats. But don’t they... I dunno... get in the way a bit?"
51stcenturyfox: (Default)
OKAY, THREE...fer?  FOUR,  OKAY

I'd like to rec a lovely Tosh fic I had the privilege to beta-read recently. [personal profile] golden_d  penned They Still Write Poetry in the Fifty-First Century for the [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon community. Check it out... it's so her and just... really nice.. :)

She is not a linguist by trade or by training, but she is persistent, and when you break it down enough, language is only a series of patterns. Everything is a series of patterns; the whole universe is patterns. Toshiko has always prided herself on being good with patterns (except, she thinks, when it comes to relationships; and even then it is the pattern that is flawed, not her observance of it).

Second, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] crack_van for reccing Asleep At The Switch. I was very happy... If you don't know the comm, it's awesome for finding fanworks of all kinds. Man from U.N.C.L.E fanfids! Woo!

[livejournal.com profile] tadeudz just pointed X-Philes to a MULDER ANGST CROSS STITCH. But there are Spike and Buffy and others. Pretty great. Everybody Hurts, by Stacia Yeapanis, is here.

And this NCIS  vid is bitchin'. This song has been in my head for two days. Happy Tuesday!

First, recs!

Nick, ([livejournal.com profile] cruentum  ) has a new tale up on his fic journal.  It's Jack, it's Ianto, it's a date... but it's not a hearts-and-flowers date.  Drippy pizza, dirty sheets and messy sex.

Title: Pizza Mouth
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cyus
Rating: NC-17
Length: 5200 words

In other news,  [personal profile] amand_r  has posted an incredibly OUCH and beautifully-written story.

Title:
When Taken Apart
Author: [personal profile] amand_r
Characters: Jack. Ianto
Warnings: post-CoE—character death leik woah (this is an autopsy!fic)

Secondly, Nick and I are gearing up for a poll on topics for the next Porn Battle.  If you have other suggestions, please add them here!

Thirdly, um. There is no thirdly.  Here's a video which is AWESOME.  Profit!  (Did I do that "profit!" meme wrong? Probably.)

I'm Your Man by Charmax - A celebration of media clichés made for the International Day Of Femslash. It's... sexy.

I'm Your Man )
51stcenturyfox: (Default)
[info]cyus  (aka [livejournal.com profile] cruentum ) has posted his [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest story, Prince of the Apple Towns, in which he vividly envisions Ianto's past during the go-go dot-com era.  While working in a gay café , the tailor's son seeks to redefine himself far away from home in an atmosphere of casual work, casual sex and casual lies:

Last night's shag had asked for his number, accent and blond hair and screaming God in Swedish or Norwegian, and Ianto had fumbled out digits with a sleight of hand and a winning grin, a nod and the promise of another night, but the number wouldn't work, had never been his.

(As I have promised, everything I beta-read now gets lipstick kisses. It's like the mark of Zorro, without the jabby sword. *Mwah!*)
MWAH

As if you need another reminder, the Comment Porn Battle is coming this weekend. Rule clarification: no RPF/RPS. It's already multifandom, though mostly Torchwood and Doctor Who-related, so we don't want to lose the original focus of this thang.

In other news, the sound driver in my laptop has apparently died. I'm a YouTube addict enthusiast so this is kinda tragic unfortunate.

You do the 'in bed' thing with fortune cookies too, right? )

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] spoggly  has a DEBBIE HARRY PICSPAM up.   Awesome.  *flails*  *licks screen* *adjusts icon*

Fabtastic character voices. Not normally my pairing but I likey.

Unrelated: I wish someone would make a TW Tosh-centric video to "Clever Girls Like Clever Boys..." by Pelle Carlberg. (Which could be good theme-age for Scully, too. And me. Heh. Not that I'm clever, but you know what I mean. Geek.) Also. [livejournal.com profile] oletheros  has a new chapter of Oceanus Procellarum for us. Because it's FRIDAY.

Just rec'ing an excellent Jack/John vid from [livejournal.com profile] tw_31988 - check out the other fanvids as well.
