Working on a follow-up to Desk Set with Jack and Ianto but I am in a reading mood, not a writing mood.  Unfortunately.

There's a TARDIS BigBang poll for writers who should be committed have committed to writing a fic here if you haven't taken it. (And I am not the only one who is behind on this thang.) How's yours coming along?

Need to work on Angel/Spike fic for [livejournal.com profile] grazieprego . I have a... title.

Am also in a video-watching mood.  I'm a huge fan of Wim Wenders films and have run across a lovely fanvid for Wings of Desire by[profile] esther_nairn511   One of two angels desires the impossible: to trade immortality for love of a mortal, and to become mortal himself.

Still so sad that Solveig Dommartin died so young (at the age of 45 in 2007). I love her voice. So much.

Wings of Desire was her debut film.  Which films do you find visually arresting?

I'm looking forward to reading your Spangel fic. It'll be nice to get a new take on the 'ship.

Oh good... are you working on one too?

Did you use one of the prompts or are you doing something different?

I'm not taking part, I'm afraid. Too many other things on my fic writing plate at the moment.

YOU ARE SMART.

I have over-committed. Which is okay, but it feels like end of term is coming.

Yeah, I did 80% of my term papers on Sunday night. :D

Reminds me of one of my favorite U2 songs (and video), Stay (Faraway, So Close!), which, of course, I'm sure you know of since the song is in the sequel to Wings of Desire. That's all I know of those films because I've yet to see either film. But I do know who Wim Wenders is. And I love that song:

Just the bang
And the clatter
As an angel
Hits the ground

As far as visually stimulating? I admit there aren't many films that I find visually stimulating. I love Kubrick, for that, though, his camera angles, the lighting, his love for long, foreboding hallways, odd music...

Oh, and Repo! The Genetic Opera is a VERY beautiful horror musical. Very beautiful (but not for everyone). I love it though, it's in my top 5 right now. :)

WITH you on Kubrick. Love that every film is totally different.

And ah, that's a great song. Speaking of being different (or not) Wim Wenders always uses the same artists in soundtracks - U2, Jane Siberry, Nick Cave. Until The End of the World's soundtrack is in constant rotation in my player. I don't have the Stay CD. (Or the film).

Haven't seen Repo! yet. Need to!

WW is one of my faves--his films always have excellent soundtracks.

I have spent many hours listening to Wings of Desire and Until the End of the World. Since you mention U2--their song Until the End of the World is a song I really love. After reading the lyrics, I decided it is Judas, from the grave, talking to Jesus--heavy shit. It is kind of like New Testament fanfic.

Right, I remember you liked his stuff. That is a fantastic song. New Testament fanfic? Whoa.

What is it with me and fandom involving immortal characters, BTW?

Torchwood/Doctor Who/Angel & BtVS/Wings of Desire

That's odd. Maybe. Subconscious thing?

Nope, and not particularly. I have no real afterlife beliefs either.

I think I just want to be remembered for something when I conk.

I don't have any afterlife beliefs either. Not anymore. I was REALLY conflicted in my teens and 20s, my parents were (and still are) insanely religious. I studied almost every religion under the sun. And in my late 20s, I decided that I don't believe in anything, really. I do have kind of a pantheistic belief that we are all god but I don't believe in religious texts or a man in the sky. And don't really know what, if anything, occurs in "the afterlife."

Perhaps that's why I'm attracted to those immortality themes so much and why I am constantly trying to "seize the day", because I don't KNOW what happens and that kind of scares me. I want to embrace life now and enjoy it to its fullest for as long as I can.

That's interesting. I don't feel any anxiety about afterlife stuff, good or bad, but yeah - making the most of life, which is a provable reality - is key.

I do think the concept of angels is a creepy one. Or the concept of any formerly-alive beings hanging around the earthly plane. Watching us in the shower. Ew.

But I can't see a downside to being immortal without aging, unless the end result is becoming a giant head in a jar. I'd be a freaking superhero and fight crime.

The whole immortal thing is so compelling for me because it is a double-edged sword: getting to live through all history would be amazing, but you also have to say goodbye to everyone--which would totally suck. I think that is why the Doctor and the Captain are such interesting, but vaguely sad characters.

True. But it's less sad if you can travel through time; you could, in theory, re-experience things with people when they were alive.

That's a good premise for a story, actually. Jack, maybe, sending himself a note saying "look, trust me, leave the city for a week"... and then coming back to that week in time as future!self to spend time with Estelle or Ianto (or whomever) who would be none the wiser.

Hey, thanks! You just handed me a premise. (will credit) :D

Or you could!

I really hope not, as it's supposed to be an action/adventure like an episode, as opposed to a deep thinky piece. A little candy for the brain, if you will (but not porn candy) and it would just be depressing if it was Nyquil instead.

Yeah. I really need to do some work that they're paying me for now...

I hear you there.

Mine is supposed to be a combo of both with a lot of character study, and it's Owen-centric.

Finding it very difficult.

LJ just ate my response. Humph. Now I don't know what I was going to say. Other than that Owen is going to get a Big Damn Hero moment in my fic. And that I should probably go write it and procrastinate doing my job some more...

Well, I'm currently 500 words away from ten thousands words on my Big Bang fic. This is a good thing. The bad thing is that I'm not halfway through the story. I'm still at the beginning of the story.

On the bright side, I only need to have 15k done by the 26th (which will not be a problem, I'll probably have 20k+ done by then). But I still don't have an actiony plot to go with it, which I need. Which I actually need right now because I have Gwen and Ianto going into the Hub at 5:30AM because Jack called them in for a major emergency, but I don't know what it is. So I'll probably be doing a lot of staring blankly at my screen today. :)

Most of it has happened in the last two days, if I'm being honest. On a roll. Like I said, roll has kind of stopped because I need plot. I need big deal, top priority, episode-like plot. I'm rubbish at this. I'm kind of reaching the point where I think I might steal some plot from another episode, or DW or something and edit it accordingly (since they do that enough on their own show/in their own novels, it'd be like tradition!) for my needs.

Ooh, yes! I'll take a reader! Feedback is good! I'll send you my Word doc. Thanks. :D

They've been called into the Hub b/c Jack found out that Rhys is really a pod person and he's been sent to get the entire population of the planet to do the "Chicken Dance" in less than 24 hours -- while wearing polyester pants. The world needs saving!

Why, I think that might just be what I'm looking for! Or, you know, not. But I appreciate the suggestion! Though at this point, if Rhys was in my story, I might take it on because I have such a big, blank spot where "plot" should go. But as it stands, you just kind of see Rhys from afar, eating some pasta, and that's it for Rhys in my story.

Which is sad. I like Rhys.

Well, Rhys has days where all he does is eat pasta. It happens to us all. Last Thursday, all I did was eat jelly beans.

Well, I'm sure he does stuff that isn't eating pasta, he isn't stuck in some pasta-eating time loop (hey, now there's a plot!), I just don't know what it is, and it's really not important to the story.

Mmmm... jelly beans. Sounds delicious. Now I'm getting hungry. But I know for a fact that we have no jelly beans. I'll have to settle for real food. Boo.

The fic challenge centers around slashing the toothsome twosome because of the anniversary of the The Girl In Question episode (in Rome).

So it's going to be present-dayish, in Rome. ROME IS ALWAYS SEXY.

They're going to stay in Rome and drink espresso and Angel's going to lose that fugly Motoguzzi jacket and they're going to have filthy sex in the Pantheon before the sun shifts to fry them.
