Recs and a poll about fic-reading

FYI - Normally, not having an account somewhere would keep me from commenting, but since I have an account on LJ, DW, and AO3, no worries!

When I first got into fandom, I read mostly on individual websites and archives -- this was before LJ and related platforms were popular. Or on things like yahoo groups.
Now, I generally read on LJ simply because I have so little searching time, so I review my F-list for new stories. However, I'm perfectly happy being linked to and reading wherever the story is. I don't bookmark things, generally, so finding stuff is usually my limit. I hate delicious, though -- the only thing I use it for is ego stroking ... I got there to see how many people have linked to my stories.

The first time I read your fic, I saw it on insanejournal, and I couldn't figure out how to comment... and I really wanted to, because I loved it.
I try to bookmark on delicious, but forget 98% of the timeand didn't bother because Sam bookmarks the stuff I would, usually and it drives me nuts later when I want to find something I read six months ago. Forget to add things to memories too, which is why I have to search your journal when I want to read the Gwen/Ianto crossdressing story. Which is um, fairly often. I FAIL.

This is why I think the AO3 works better for me (as a place for my fic). It's fiction only, tagged as loaded and helps to curtail my fairly careless archiving style.

I actually put a few stories up there this week. I can't post most of them because, well, apparently they don't really (technically) allow smutfic. :/
I haven't achieved cross-accounts yet, so I'm more likely to miss something if it ain't on LJ. Is there a magic journal platform for the terminally timid who NEVER KEEP UP ON COMMENTING?? Aargh, I'm so behind.
I'm okay about commenting, but I don't leave really great in-depth comments the way you do, either. :)

Yeah, nowadays for my fiction, I try and load it to DW and it automatically crossposts to my LJ and IJ
I wasn't sure how to interpret the first option on question 2 - I have an LJ account (obviously) but don't have one on either Dreamwidth or AO3 and have no intention of getting one. So LJ it is - and I notice you didn't mention Teaspoon; I'm just as likely to read/comment on Teaspoon as I am on LJ. Just nowhere else.
(And then, of course, it depends what the fic is about *g* If it's Jack/Doctor or OT3, I'm all over it; if it's Ianto... not so much. Not even for you!)

I treat it more like an archive for older stories, meself.
It does log you out. Actually, everything logs me out except for Youtube and gmail. I have to re-log into LJ and stuff daily. Not sure why. But I come here anyway.

I know, we all have our fic genres. :) I don't fancy Doctor/Master, for one. I like it in fanvids though, weirdly.

A short fic I'll read anywhere, a longer (chaptered) fic I'm somewhat more likely to tackle if it's either posting somewhere that I can have it pester me as new bits come out (IE favoriting on Teaspoon or tracking here), or can set to 'read all at once' if it's completely posted (IE 'story view' on Teaspoon or... um, whatever the equivalent is on AO3, I know there is one because it drives me nuts when I go to post stories there). So... kind of depends. As to commenting, having to jump through hoops like having an account somewhere I don't already frequent (FF.net I am looking at you) is a definite deterrent. Also, bizarrely, is the fic's rating -- the higher it is, the more I'm going to have to like the story to overcome that feeling that the little old ladies in the knitting guild are going to manage to stumble into my "comments left" stats or something and start clutching their pearls at me at the next meeting... {sigh}
My favorite places are LJ and Teaspoon. LJ is good because I'm always checking my flist, and Teaspoon is good because I check the queue almost every day so I see most of what goes through there.
Dreamwidth just doesn't have enough activity for me to remember that it exists most of the time, and AO3 frankly has TOO much material and not enough organization for me to want to visit.

Doesn't AO3 make you enter your email to comment? I don't really like doing that. I don't have an account there and I'm kind of ignorant about the whole place. Although I said I'd read anywhere. I have a non-updated DW account. I should do something about that. Although probably no one looks at it anyway. I digress.
I only have an LJ account, so I usually don't leave comments at DW or AO3 - unless I can do it without logging in and then I'll leave my LJ name so the person knows who I am.
I'll read anywhere and comment anywhere. I don't know if you can get into back-and-forth discussions with authors or other readers (not that that happens often anyway) at AO3 though, which leads me to prefer LJ or DW.
