It is the peer-pressure packaged food meme. (I don't even know. I made that up). Try some manufactured commercial foodstuff your friends endorse, even if the picture on the box freaks you out.

I mean, look at it. It doesn't look that creepy, just kind of unappetizing. Or am I wrong?

Yup, I am trying Kraft Bagel Fuls. I'd never heard of them or seen the commercials. [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge mentioned their handy breakfasty nature first, but how could I resist these glowing testimonials from [livejournal.com profile] snaxcident ?

Once you try the Bagel Fuls you will all be glad. You will wonder how you managed in the Before Times

Once you go Bagel Ful you can never go back to not knowing. It's like taking the red pill or the blue pill. But it's not a pill, it's a tube made out of bagel. - Claire

Claire should write their ads. That's even better than "My husband gives me one every morning." She made a chocolate cake with Diet Coke and Pimm's in it, so she is adventurous.

REVIEW!

Name: Bagel Fuls. Bagel Full Of Cream Cheese and whatever (mine has cherry jam-like stuff.) There are other flavors.
Packaging: See above. Each Bagel Ful is individual wrapped in a foil packet for carrying. "Hey, baby, is that a Bagel Ful in your pocket, or..."
Prep: They can be microwaved or toasted lightly, or shoved in your pocket right out of the fridge for portable munching.
Look: Golden brown pre-toasted appearance. They are about an inch shorter in length than a standard hot dog bun. They look better in the flesh for realz than as pictured on the box. On the box they look dry where they're ripped open.
Smell: Hardly any scent at all. I've got my nose pressed against one, very hard. Hmm. Most plain bagels don't SMELL anyway, though.
Texture: Not really dry nor moist. Smoother than a baby's bottom, but an unmoisturized baby. Resembles a frozen commercial bagel like Pillsbury's/Lender's'.
Taste: Unremarkable. Stretchy/chewy when you bite into it. Like a... plain bagel bun stuffed with cream cheese and cherry. The filling is like Toaster Strudel Cherry and... cream cheese. Not terrible but not ZOMG NOMMY! I can see having these for breakfast if you commute and don't have time to sit down and toast a bagel then spread cream cheese on it. (Though... 5 minutes.)
Grade: B. I will eat the rest of these ($2.50 per box) but probably won't buy them again.

Claire, have you tried the ONE POUND HUNGRY MAN DINNERS YET?

Tried anything different lately?

I'm... taking these off my Peapod delivery. It doesn't sound NOMMY enough to try, even for $2 a box.

THIS. I just keep thinking that clearly Kraft needs to hire more Jews to stop this from happening ever again.

I can even get fresh bagels here!

But I would pick the bag o' trail mix over a granola bar, too. Maybe I have an irrational thing against bars/bricks of food.

wow, I must have tapped into the collective bagel unconscious ... but I have been craving bagel.

have not seen the fabled bagelful around these parts, but I suspect they're hiding until they're ready to leap out at people!!

goes back to eating poptart...

If they leap out, I'm RUNNING AWAY.

Poptarts, I like. I run them under water for a fraction of a second before toasting for maximum tarty moisture.

Just wanted to add I laughed like a loon yesterday when I stopped at my Sheetz, and saw they have Bagelfuls in the single serve packs in their quick foods section. :0)

It just confirmed my choice of a bagel sandwich for dinner before audtions.

much LULZ!!

Now a bagel sandwich, with turkey and cheese and things? I could get behind that.

Or with eggs and stuff on it for breakfast. YAYS!

So I can continue to refuse to buy these when I go grocery shopping with my mom. She's been oddly insistent on me trying them considering she doesn't like bagels at all, and I don't like cream cheese, so the chances of either of us liking them seems slim.

And she so loves when my basis for not buying something she thinks is a good idea is that someone she's never met told me it wasn't worth it. :) But really, I don't actually find making a bagel to be that time consuming. The actually eating it is rather exhausting but that's because the dog is staring at me as if I never feed her every time I eat...I'm pretty sure she'll do that with the Bagel-Fuls too. :)

That never works with mine. She's clearly figured out that whatever I'm eating tastes better than what's in her bowl. Unless it's green beans, peas, salad, or Frosty Paw Ice Cream. (not that she's at all spoiled.)

Back when I was eating packaged foods (gluten free now, alas), I remember that the breakfast options were usually the grossest. Though I did have a weakness for Pillsbury bacon, egg and cheese Toaster Strudels. The transfat just flaked off the pastry and the cheese sauce made from candle wax and vegetable oil was DELICIOUS.

A cake with diet coke and Pimm's. Wonder if that could be made with GF cake mix.

Here's the thing-- to get bakery doughnuts, you have to go to the bakery and get them fresh. EVERY DAY. I am a lazy ho-- so I will not go to the store and get fresh bagels. I don't even like to put cream cheese on the bagel. I just stare at them in the fridge and say, "whateva. I'll eat this assemblage-free apple" But as Claire said, KRAFT HAD FILLED A NEED I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I HAD.

I WILL TRY THE ONE POUND HUNGRY MEN. It's going to be a workplace fiesta!

I am shocked that you have the temerity to suggest Bagel Fuls aren't a necessity of life. Like air, water, Pimm's, etc.

Taste: Unremarkable

It's not bad. It's not good. It's just ok. It's like eating a warm edible creamy baby arm. Maybe a leg.

I'll buy them if I have a coupon. My daughter eats these like crazy, though.

Now those Kashi thin frozen pizzas...? Total cardboard. I love me some Kashi but those pizzas are ridiculously not worth it.

Oh you mean Pump Up The Volume's Happy Harry Hard-on and his "Is it bigger than a baby's arm..." thingie? Yeah, that's probably where I got it from.

I'll eat the Kashi pizza things but only if it's free and I can add more cheese because otherwise, WHY? Now the oatmeal's good even though I've yet to figure out how to keep it from exploding in the microwave.

I tried these a while back, I think it was the cinnamon flavor though. They were okay, not great but there are worse ready made breakfasts out there. Major plus in its favor was the fact it required zero effort to make, very important before I've had coffee in the morning.
