@GeekTyrant, I feel you on the (lame ass) plans to remake Hitchcock's The Birds and also Poltergeist. WTF.  Story at TheWrap.

“”Poltergeist” was a seminal film for us, you know, in our lives, and it’s like your dad’s classic vintage car that’s been in the garage and you’re not allowed to touch it,” says (screenwriter Stiles) White.  “It’s treasured; it’s valuable.  We see 'Poltergeist' as if, um, as if we’re being handed the keys to the car and we’re gonna be really careful with it.”

It's Cameron Frye's dad's car. LEAVE IT IN THE GARAGE.  Or you know, write some fanfic and post it on the internet.  And then write something new or adapt one of the gazillion books in existence which hasn't already been made into a film people really liked. Because you're going to ruin the magic of the originals.

Yeah, I know they're "just" horror flicks. But they don't go off.

Oh ffs. When will people just learn to leave the hell alone and try having their own ideas once in a while? I'm still seething about the Hollywood remake of State of Play, and since Poltergeist was one of my first ever horror movies that switched me on to the genre, I'm pretty miffed about this too.

Still, they won't ruin the magic of the original for me. Because I won't be watching a remake where they take away all of the subtext and spell it out in big, bold letters for what Hollywood seems to consider the new generation of attentionally-challenged movie goers.

Humph.

Oh, yes... I recall you mentioning this. WTH! I'm avoiding the remake as well.

Remaking recent films/TV from other English-speaking countries befuddles me. Life on Mars, for one.

We do speak English here in Ameriker and can understand the originals just fine.

Some exceptions exist for me: The Office US was a terrible ripoff the first year, but has turned into something completely unique.

I agree, I love the US version of The Office. It's such a great show and I want a Jim Halpert of my very own.

You want to know something funny? I find Dwight oddly hot. I'd do him. He'd know about sneaky dirty sex.

My husband and everyone else I tell that to thinks I'm crazy but...

He just kind of acts like Dwight. Translation: random. (But you know that already.)

I love the Dwight/Angela secret thing. That's so bitchen and dirty.

CASE IN POINT: TODAY.

Him: *approaches me with piece of white, waxy paper* "Hey, smell this!"

Me: (wary) "What is it?"

Him: "It's a divider from the swiss cheese package! It smells like feet!" *laughs with glee*

I knew better than to smell it in the first place, BTW.

THAT DOES sound like Dwight, LOL! I had an ex that was kind of like that.

Oh, and however smart I think I am, I always fall for my husband's little practical jokes every time. I don't know why. If it was done by anyone else, I'd be like, "Yeah, right." But he always manages to get me going (like the time he told me his father borrowed my car and totaled it and wasn't going to pay for the repairs, which was a complete lie. The car didn't have a scratch. Oh, I was so mad!)

I'm still trying to recover from the horror that was Willy Wonka ala Tim Burton. Of course, the fact that I saw it when I was *ahem* recreationally chemically impaired could be contributing to my bad trip... uh, I mean experience.

I did NOT EVEN see that! The original creeped me out hard core as a child. (And the book is smacking awesome.)

I'm sure the chemical assistance helped. :)

Remaking Hitchcock's "The Birds"? Here's a cool idea -- make it a shot-by-shot exact replica of the original! It would be legendary!

Le Sigh.

Oh, wouldn't that be awesome! And they could do it in black-and-white!

What a fab moneymaker that would be for the studios! ;)

(Since this is really what all the remakes are about.)

Hey, I love to recycle, but...

OMG, I'm so sick of remakes too. They're trying to remake The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Footloose, Total Recall, Neverending Story, War Games and Nightmare on Elm Street.

Seriously, WTF?!!

It's Cameron Frye's dad's car. LEAVE IT IN THE GARAGE.

This. THIS! That quote is made of total complete win and utter truth. Ugh, remakes of some of these films - it's like blasphemy or something!

Cheers.

AND WTF.

These films are new(ish). Are we that old?

Netflix, people. You can watch the originals!

Anyone remaking Rocky Horror should be stopped. Picketed. Tied down and beaten with pieces of toast.

I know. I about cried when I heard that they were redoing Rocky Horror. And I think MTV is going to be the ones fucking redoing it. Oh! *shudders*

How can you POSSIBLY re-do Rocky Horror?!! No, no, no, no!

But you know what? All of these remakes will still make tons of money because, even if everyone's outraged at these remakes, they'll still watch them because they loved the original and will want to see how much the new ones suck. I know that even though I'm going to be seething with anger inside over a Rocky Horror remake, I'm still going to see it.

Oh MTV? The cinematic powerhouse which brought us Joe's Apartment?

(Though I admit I like the Jackass franchise, because I'm not very mature.)

You'd see a Rocky Horror remake? Wut?

I might if it were on freeview, but those fuckers are not getting my $$$.

I LOVE Jackass! And sadly, yes, I admit that I'd see a Rocky Horror remake. I'll be cringing and cussing every single second of it but I have to see what they'd do with it. The curiosity will kill me.

Oh girl, you are SO RIGHT. "They don't go off"...heh. Exactly. What is it with lousy remakes of classic horror films? They take all the lovely, delicious metaphor and symbolism and make it literal, and thus dull and boring!

Did you see the remake of 'The Hitcher', with Sean Bean in Rutger Hauer's role? I adore Sean Bean, but that movie. Blecch.

If anybody ever tries to remake 'Rear Window', I'm going to commit suicide.

Yet.

Joking, yes. I would be seriously tempted to blow something up, though. I adore 'Rear Window'. Yummy yummy voyeurism, gloriously naughty Grace Kelly, (and I love that pic you posted of Tippi Hedron, btw), and Jimmy Stewart. The best thing about the 50s was the way that Hitchcock brought out the dark side of Jimmy Stewart!! GO ALFRED!!
