Yes, I have stolen a meme from [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly

I am:
Robert A. Heinlein
Beginning with technological action stories and progressing to epics with religious overtones, this take-no-prisoners writer racked up some huge sales numbers.

Which science fiction writer are you?

Well, slap the dog and spit in the fire.

The first SF genre novel I read was Heinlein's Friday and it ruined me for many others. I was a young teen, so that's a long period of ruin.

Let's see: A kickass female protagonist, balkanised world, alternative lifestyles, condemnation of a person being shunned by society due to origin (Friday is an AP - an "Artificial Person") and corporate hegemony*. There are terror attacks/assassinations which realistically cause chaos and confusion in both the characters' and readers' noggins, terraforming and genre planets. Plus, real science -  and tech that still gives me a joy on to imagine: the Beanstalk (space elevator for the big fat win) and semi-ballistic travel.

Adventure + science geeking + I actually cared about Friday Jones + interesting (although in some ways dated and controversial) sociological bits?  And humor? Yes, please.

*Obligatory Torchwood tie-in: My fanon interpretation of the Time Agency asserts that it's actually the enforcement arm of an interstellar corporate monolith like Shipstone.

Shipstone: Daniel Shipstone Estate, Inc.; Muriel Shipstone Memorial Research Laboratories; Shipstone Tempe, Gobi, Aden, Sahara, Africa, Death Valley, Karroo, Never-Never,
Ell-Four, Ell-Five, Stationary, Tycho, Ares, DeepWater, Unlimited, and Ltd.; Sears-Montgomery, Inc.; Prometheus Foundation; Coca-Cola Holding Co.; Intraworld Transport Corp.; Jack and the Beanstalk, Pty.; Morgan Associates; Out-Systems Colonial Corporation; Billy Shipstone School for Handicapped Children; Wolf Creek Pass Nature Preserve; Año Nuevo Wild Life Refuge; and Shipstone Visual Arts Museum and School. In effect, Shipstone controlled the entire economy.

Ba-ding-dang.

Gregory Benford (A master literary stylist who is also a working scientist.)

I did. I can't say Krycek is too thrilled to be fucked over by Harkness and/or Torchwood time and time again, but he is sexy at it :D

Hah glad you agree. Crossovering is such a fickle business, and oh very much feeling the X-Files here too at the moment. Had to go and grab some of my old Alex icons.

I know, right? I thought.. BZUH? on some of the authors people ended up with. I focus on some genre things and not all.

Focusing on a few different things is my bag, though - I don't love 85 million authors like some seem to, and "fantasy" genre stuff? Not at all.

Oh, sweeeet! Heinlein frakkin' rocked. Go you!! Have you read the earlier ones, too?

Lots of crossover potential with Lazarus Long and Jack. Also, I'm completely convinced that Jack kisses exactly like Valentine Michael Smith.

Oh yes, I've read loads, including short stories and non-fic stuff like Tramp Royale. There are some really early novels I haven't read, though.

Heh. Just took it. I'm Ursula LeGuin! How cool!

I am:
Ursula K. LeGuin
Perhaps the most admired writing talent in the science fiction field.

Which science fiction writer are you?

I met her once. She was FANTASTIC.

...and I just remembered what I'd read last. Solitude. It was in an anthology, I think?

Is that LeGuin, or Heinlein? I haven't read anything by either one of them in, like, decades. Love them both, though, 'Fear No Evil' and SiaSL were the books that formed my sexuality, in the same way that LotR formed my ethical system.

Such a geek.

You simply must watch last night's SPN (ep. 4.16). Dean is spectacularly beautiful in it. Broken, and beautiful. God, the way they lit him!! Eyes. I'm tempted to use words like 'emeralds'.

He'd make a good woman steal

Let us gaze upon the awesome that is... Dean flippin' Winchester:

I could say the same about Friday :: as you did to SiaSL.

Oh, my error. Yes, that's a LeGuin story.

You know, I think I think everything I have by her is in anthologies.

Haven't been to the library in months. I suck. Actually, you suck, internetz! I don't read books anymore!

Heh, I know. I went to the library for the first time in weeks, yesterday. Re=reading Lynn Flewelling's Traitor's Moon stuff.

That's funny...I don't think I've ever read any short fiction by LeGuin. You've never read Left Hand of Darkness?

Hmm. I may have. Geez, I'll have to look it up.

I've spent the last two years re-visiting classic stuff (non sci-fi) and reading lots of non-fiction. Mostly sociology-based things and political jazz/bios.
