Via [livejournal.com profile] lipsum  - this might be the best Halloween costume EVER!  Boudicca!

Frida Kahlo is also pretty cool. :D

Are you going anywhere for Halloween/do you dress up?  I think I'll just be opening the door this year and handing out noms to beggars.

I'll be at Whitby Goth Weekend for Halloween, so I'll just be dressing up in 'normal' gear...

[identity profile] 51stcenturyfox.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Which is much cooler than my normal gear, no doubt! :D

Never heard of Boudicca. Very cool. I'm going to research her.

I usually dress up. But have no idea this year. I feel inspired by your post to be an ancient historical figure. I'll have to think about it.

There are tons!

Sheets can produce togas for any number of royal figures. LOL!

A friend of mine's girlfriend dressed up as Boudicca one year for Halloween... I geeked.

I throw a party every year (favourite holiday EVER) and this year the theme is music videos. I'm thinking of Cyndi Lauper I just haven't decided which one yet...

PS - If I got to any other parties I'll probably go as Artemis (haven't worn that costume in years!) and for trick-or-treaters may do a store-bought medieval costume I have... I love dressing up!

For this year's party we're just doing masks. I have a cool Venetian bird-style mask (kind of glam black death doctory) and I'll wrap myself up in a cloak.

Oooh, I'd love to see a pic! PICS!

I bought a mask in Venice, but it's kind of a brocade-and-tulle thing which I've never worn, but it's hanging on the wall. :)

I tend not to dress up (I don't go anywhere, so it would be sort of silly), but my kid! This pleases me so much: she wants to be a jewel thief for hallowe'en. I have no idea where she got the idea, but it's what she insists she wants.

She doesn't want to be a Disney Princes. She doesn't want to be Strawberry Shortcake, or Dora, or Batman, or any character from some movie, cartoon, or tv show. She doesn't want to get a canned costume and dress up as someone else who exists independently of her. She wants to be a thing, a person who does something - something adventurous, requiring wit and bravery. (and moral turpitude, but whatever, it's Hallowe'en.)

It's moments like this that make me feel like the draconian strictures I have on television are paying off. Her ability to imagine her life is not yet circumscribed by a corporation who wants to dictate the flavour and breadth of her dreaming.

Aww, that's fantastic!

I remember when I was a kid, and the costumes were kind of general without being franchise-specific, you know? Black cat (leotards and ears and tail) or Pirate or if you were lazy, Bum. :D

In sixth grade, my friends wanted to trick-or-treat, and I had no costume, so I put on a long shirt and beret and drew on a moustache and made a palette and went as an artist. LOLZ.

JEWEL THIEF wins on so many levels! Is she getting a little black mask and a bag full of Mardi-Gras beads? :D

Yeah, that's what I"m thinking. And if in my mind I call her Lady Christina de Souza, that's just between me and her (also Who fannish) dad.
