Yup! A lot of people thought, well, it'll be on in US, and you know how conservative they are.

Starz isn't.

That's more T&A than HBO's Rome! 

So, what are the odds Barrowman's going to flash us his junk onscreen in S4? I say, pretty good.

Yup. Not exactly ground breaking portrayal of queerness, though I think female/female characters got better endings (though, much of the female/female sex stuff was pretty clearly T&A of the traditional 'lookit the guurls' type).

OTOH, I don't expect that RTD will necessarily produce yet another variation of bury the gays ... well, anyway, the development of characters until whatever dramatic ending he chooses should be good and interesting.

I loved Rome, but oddly enough, I don't have much of a desire to watch Spartacus. From what I've seen, it's just a bit too glossy. Maybe I'll change my mind at some point.

Yeah, Spartacus strikes me as the kind of show meant to be injected directly into the brainstems of hetero frat boys. It's definitely got action, (though the special effects are really. terrible.) and it's definitely got hetero-centric, porn-industry-fulfilling porn. LOL. It's good enough to give a go, though, for entertainment purposes. I watched up until they (predictably) axed the gay couple. Lucy Lawless is ungodly hot. There's that. But her character really started to gross me out.

I think what Spartacus needs is more Time Agency. ;)

Spartacus: Blood and Sand is my favourite programme EVER. And is actually really good in addition to basically being bisexual porn with a side of gratuitious gore (seriously, if they'd designed this show specifically with me as the target audience, they couldn't have got it any more spot on).

This does have the side effect now however that whenever anyone says "Torchwood S4!" I just hear "I AMMMMM SPAARRRRTACUS!"

And not only is he IN THIS he's a) an absolutely magnificant bastard to the Nth degree and b) married to Lucy Lawless - who's his absolute equal in both magnificance and bastardy. AND he's so brilliantly hammy and plainly having a blast. This show has so much joie de vivre it basically oozes off the screen and into your bloodstream.

I'm going to give you the same disclaimer I just gave Mel, because I'm worried now everyone's going to watch it on my recommendation and come away thinking there's something wrong with me: I do enjoy a lot of Spartacus with the same part of my brain I use to enjoy professional wrestling and cheesy horror films - and, when it does get its Proper Drama shoes on, it is pretty dark, there aren't really any nice guys, and anybody can die (and if they didn't yet, they will - history is spoilers!). I think it's actually a cracking drama, especially in the later episodes, but you won't get that far if OTT CGI gore and softcore porn doesn't also do it for you.
