When she heard an odd thump from above, Gwen took the stairs two at a time, but a vivid memory as she hit the top step forced her to a halt.
Remembering the scene she'd inadvertently interrupted in the greenhouse one night, she interpreted the sound in a different way and felt the bloom of a blush at her cheeks.
She tapped her palm on the railing then gripped the metal bar and turned to go, but something stopped her.
No, just turn around, Gwen, she told herself. Go out and get some takeaway. That'll give them enough time to... finish. Or just go home. It's late.
But she hesitated, stock still. And when she heard a low moan from down the hall she gritted her teeth and despite some misgivings (not many) began to tiptoe towards the sound.
Their fault for leaving the door open, really.
As she walked, she noted a flickering shadow cast on the catwalk from Jack's office. Gwen placed a hand flat on the doorway's edge and inclined her head slowly.
Just a peek, she told herself.
Ianto had Jack pinned to the desk, one hand on the back of his neck. His other hand was... she couldn't really tell from that angle, but it was occupied. She could just see the top of Jack's head, but the panting was, well, loud and he was certainly enjoying whatever Ianto was doing to him with that hand. Gwen could fill in the blanks.
Ianto's trousers were... somewhere. There. Thrown across the chair. His shirt was open, and Gwen let her gaze roam over his chest and belly as his muscles flexed.
Jack's hair was a rumpled mess. His trousers were down, just barely visible.
But then she noticed the red braces wrapped tightly around his wrists behind his back, and Jack lifted his face from the desk.
Gwen gripped the side of the doorway.
That. That was, well. It was damned sexy. She hadn't expected to see... that.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, came an unbidden voice in her head from an old Monty Python sketch, and Gwen's hand flew to her mouth to stifle a giggle.
The movement alerted one of the parties in the office, who glanced over to the doorway. His eyes met hers.
Busted.
Mortified, Gwen froze and pasted what she hoped was an appropriate "I'm sorry" expression on her face.
Then she saw the grin.
She couldn't remember the last time she'd seen him smile like that and it was lovely, really.
Ianto leaned to whisper something and Jack shuddered hard and moaned, again.
Gwen managed a shaky thumbs-up and received a saucy wink in return before she backed away from the door and very quietly went downstairs, logged out of her screens and went home to her flat.
"Where'd you suddenly get this notion, Gwen? Not that I've any complaints, mind."
"Ooh, nowhere in particular, sweetheart," she replied, as she yanked the belt around Rhys' wrists tighter with a wicked smile and pushed his face into the pillows.
She didn't let on that she and Ianto were going to compare notes. Tomorrow.
How had he come up with the blindfold for Jack?
