I don't suppose it's all that much more difficult than any other language. Once you get to grips with the alphabet (which looks like English but is slightly different in that ll, ch, ng, th and dd are letters in their own right with a different sound rather than two put together) it's all phonetic, so in that sense is pretty straightforward.
The hard part, if you haven't learned it from a young age, is getting your mouth around the sounds, particularly for "ll" and "ch" as they don't usually occur in English. It sounds very pretty when spoken, though. Quite lilting.
