Well... this stuff is all subjective, as is subtext in most cases.

We all have things we'd like to see happen (Captain John, returning, please - though I may regret that if his character does something that puts me off my pairing of choice) but hey, the only ships we can steer are our own.

Fandom is a big place and there's room for every person's views, IMO. ;)
