51stcenturyfox: Cyberbabe! (Cyberbabe)

Last year I posted lots of jazz from the panels with Gareth and James Marsters. ET CETERA.

However, this year, there was no Torchwood programming. ARGH.  As you know, Kai Owen backed out at the last minute because he was too busy with work, apparently. Great for him, not so great for the Brittrack programming. Still there was a very good Series 5 Who panel on Sunday evening, the Gay Themes in the Whoniverse one was very good (with [livejournal.com profile] rm  and the needcoffee.com guys) and [livejournal.com profile] neifile7  says the Sherlock panel was bangin'.

I did miss the Buffy Rocky Horror-style Once More With Feeling thing. :(  We were confused about the location and were half a mile away when it started. And I was wearing shoes which weren't made for walking. THEY WERE MADE FOR LOOKING COOL.

Hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] count_to_seven, [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash, [livejournal.com profile] amand_r, [livejournal.com profile] neifile7, [livejournal.com profile] thaddeusfavour, [livejournal.com profile] rm, [livejournal.com profile] such_heights, [livejournal.com profile] dremiel, [livejournal.com profile] azn_jack_fiend, and meeting more Torchwood fans RULED! [livejournal.com profile] lucrativesequel and I kept missing each other, which bummed me out. :(

ETA: OMG. [livejournal.com profile] count_to_seven was girl!Ianto and also Ill-fitting-vest Gareth Watson. With a moustache and a dinosaur sticking out of her vest. <3

ETA II: Man, I am so forgetful. There were also a few River Songs and a guy who was WASTELAND SIMM MASTER in a hoodie and flip flops. DEAD RINGER.

Everyone is just adorable and sweet and funny. The best times were sitting around the table and talking about Torchwood, really. I can't do that in person because nobody I know here is into my fandoms. Though I tried to get my husband to come and dress as an Ent or someting from LoTR, since he does like that. And Harry Potter.

I did cosplay as Gwen. The tac vest is HOT, yo. And it's really hard to run in it because it's also heavy.  Then I get home and see Everything Changes on DVR and realize I have the pizza delivery!Gwen black jacket. Damn. Should have worn that and made a Jubilee Pizza box.  But then I would have spent all day carrying around a pizza box. There is no way to win here. Clearly I'm not cut out for cosplay.  "CARRY AN EMPTY CARDBOARD BOX? TOO MUCH EFFORT."  I did get a hug from Captain Jack - [livejournal.com profile] stylishgeek had a really good costume.  The pic is too dark, sorry!

So, with no dedicated TW panels, this year's Dragon*Con was all about socializing. See, I don't engage in 20 different fandoms except in an "oh, I watch that sometimes" sort of way.  But I was there to see my buds.

Ok, if you haven't been to Dragon*Con, there's this LINE. If you don't hit the prereg badge line at exactly the right time (after sacrificing a chicken, turning around three times and spitting down your shirtsleeve) you get to wait. See those people?  Times eight. Going down the block, wrapping around to the back of the Sheraton. And then you get in and it's snaked around those bank ropes in a ballroom and at least 500 people are in there. I lucked out this year, but last year? FOUR HOURS.

There were many awesome things at dragon*con:

FEZZES. Dremiel brought fezzes!  Mine is leopard print. :D    There were a fair number of Eleven cosplayers (and plenty of Tens, a couple of Fours and at least two Sixes).     I also bought a fox ears hat and numerous Torchwood badges, which are stuck on me wall.

THE GHOSTBUSTERSMOBILE!  So [livejournal.com profile] amand_r  and I were outside the Sheraton the other night and a car drives up blaring Thriller, and it was this car.  The people in Ghostbusters costumes were also amazing. THERE WERE LASER LIGHTS IN THE BACKPACKS.

The car was so sweet I took a picture, which sucked because it was really dark, so here's one from the parade ganked from a news site:

Lessee, what else?

-- Public near-nudity. The duct-tape bra was clever. I'm not sure how she enjoyed taking off the tape afterward. Also, white spandex pants guy. I couldn't look away, Buck Rogers! Heh.

-- William B. Davis, the Cigarette Smoking Man from the X-Files. Whose autograph I have acquired, thankyouverymuch.  (Weirdly, Kelly LeBrock was also giving autographs.  Aside from Weird Science, I don't think she's done any other genre acting.  She looked kind of... overly tanned.)

-- The dancing, boombox Stormtrooper. Never. Gets. Old.

-- The steampunk Captain Marvel! We were so entranced, we didn't get a picture.

-- Captain Morgan!

The end!  I miss all of you and wish we lived closer together so we can hang. XO!
