This is something I was thinking about yesterday. I've always been a fan of various stuff so I thought I'd look back.

It started in the 1970s, with The Hardy Boys. (Now immortalized, but stupidly, on South Park. "OMG I'M GETTING A CLUE!"  - Trey Parker and Matt Stone are my age, so they totally remember this show.)

When I was little - six, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries (the television program) was my first fandom. :D   If I was playing outside (my mom would holler for me) or doing something else, the second I realized it was TIME FOR HARDY BOYS, my parents had betta recognize I had to be in front of the big fucking television console staring at the screen, and nobody better try to talk to me or even breathe too loud.  I had a crush on Shaun Cassidy, the Justin Bieber of the 70's, and my mom favored Parker Stevenson.  (SHE WOULD.)  Shaun Cassidy is the half-brother of Partridge Family star David Cassidy, but he was too old and my cousins liked him, so... EW.

(Whereas of course Shaun somehow magically wasn't too old for me even though I was six.)

I had a Shaun face t-shirt and an IRON ON PILLOWCASE.  Maybe I kissed it goodnight. AHAHAHAHA.

Look at these GQMF crime-solving brothers!  If there was Hincest, I don't want to know. Please don't break my childhood.

I also wanted to be Nancy Drew, for the record. If this show debuted now, I'd be all Joe/Frank/Nancy OT3 (Screw you, Ned Nickerson.)

OMG get the hell out. There are fanvids!

LOL SHAUN. YOU ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN JUSTIN BIEBER BECAUSE YOU HAD TESTOSTERONE, BUT YOU'RE NOT A GREAT SINGER, SORRY.

And that is the first fangirling I remember.

I never saw the series (although young Parker Stevenson – YUM!), but as a preteen and teen, I loved the books. I never realised until recently that I'd started fanficcing (and slashing) in my head so young.

OMG you are me!!! I had a life-size Shaun Cassidy poster on the back of my bedroom door! *shifty eyes* I may or may not have kissed it.

And I'm totally with you...I wanted to be Nancy Drew and yeah, my OT3 would have been Joe/Frank/Nancy...Ned GTFO!!!

I LOVED the show...LOVED LOVED LOVED the show...and yup, read the books too.

*happy memories*

Man, I massively loved the Hardy Boys, but I only ever read the books. Mostly the Case Files, too, which were written in the 80s/90s, I think? Lulzy anti-terrorism stuff and THIS HAS AN OPTICAL DISK DRIVE WOOOOO HACKING. Ah, memories.

Oh do you remember when Shaun Cassidy did Like Normal People? I still remember his (in my opinion) brilliant portrayal of a mentally-challenged would-be father.

Oh, you! I was a Parker/David Cassidy girl all the way. And, as discussed at length on twitter last night, Randy Mantooth from EMERGENCY! Yum.

But you're right: No VCR, NO DVR; one TV in our house - You wanted to watch something you got your butt home in time and hoped your sibs would agree/could be bribed or blackmailed.

AHHHH!!!! I HAD THAT PILLOWCASE TOO!

My biggest disappointment in LIFE at age 10 was not being able to find someone to take me and my BFF to the Shaun Cassidy concert. CAN YOU IMAGINE.
