I couldn't think of what to say when I first read this, and then time passed - lots of it - and I figured, maybe it's a bit late to go back and say, you know, that's bloody brilliant, and lots of other people have, so...

Only it's still haunting me. Very few fics claw their way into the gut and reside there, but the development here is perfect. Tender and painful and simply beautiful.
